About

I am a postgraduate research student at the University of Glasgow, studying nationalism and national belonging with a particular focus on the Scottish context.

My PhD explores the ways in which different groups imagine the Scottish nation, how these imaginations can conflict with one another, and the political and social implications of these differences. Special attention is given to diasporic Scots living across world, their nationalism and belonging, and how diasporas are positioned within national communities.
Taking a critical theoretical approach, my broader research goal is to investigate and critique nationalism, 'nationness', and social identities, revealing the barriers they can pose to equality and social justice at both national and international levels.

I previously studied International Relations (MA) at the University of St Andrews and Sociology and Research Methods (MRes) at the University of Glasgow. In addition to my studies, I am the Research Officer at Carers Trust Scotland.
